Photographer Hetherington ‘killed in Libya’

Vanity Fair is reporting that photojournalist Tim Hetherington has been killed while covering the conflict in Libya. The statement quotes Peter Bouckaert of Human Rights Watch in Geneva:

“Three other journalist were also hit [in an] RPG attack, one being Getty photographer Chris Hondros; photographer Guy Martin, of the Panos Agency, who is in very serious condition; and a freelancer, Michael Brown, who is slightly wounded.”

UK-born Hetherington won several awards for his work, including World Press Photo of the Year Award in 2007 for coverage in Afghanistan, which was used in the documentary film Restrepo.

Chris Hondros later died from his injuries. Guy Martin, another Briton, and Michael Brown were treated for shrapnel wounds.
