Magazines highlight stay-at-home trend

Comment by Jennifer Hughes in the FT on yesterday’s audited sales figures for magazines, which showed celeb titles well down, men going for an upmarket read, and Londoners staying at home (Time Out sales were down):

Our new-found [obsession with gardening magazines] is unlikely to be related to this summer’s weather. Perhaps it isn’t even so much an interest in cheaper home-based leisure as a harking back to that old stereotype of the Briton hiding in his shed to avoid something bad or unpleasant he doesn’t want to face
