Bauer to ditch First and New Woman

First launch issue from 2006
Bauer is shutting both struggling weekly First and monthly New Woman, its first acts since taking over Emap’s consumer magazines – the news comes ahead of the release of the Jul-Dec ABC sales figures.

First was launched in May 2006 but failed to meet its 150,000 sales target. It was closed for a month last year and relaunched in September as a more upmarket title. The last issue comes out on Tuesday. Women’s weeklies profiled.

New Woman relaunch in 2006New Woman will leave a big hole in the Bauer porfolio because the company will be without a mainstream women’s monthly. It was relaunched as NW in December 2006 but had continued to lose sales – and that after a relaunch in 2005.
